Chirin no Suzu / Ringing Bell
Based on a book, it’s a fantastic movie and it’s just 45 minutes long.
And just so everyone knows, the entire movie can be watched legally subbed or dubbed on Crunchyroll. I don’t think you even have to be a paid member to watch it.
When I was really young, they used to have movie lunches at my school on Friday, where we’d get to watch a movie while we ate our lunch (so it had to be a pretty short movie).
I can only imagine that some teacher back in the mid-80s found a VHS copy of this, saw the cute sheep and that it was animated, and thought, “This’ll be perfect for the kids!”
PRO TIP THIS IS NOT APPROPRIATE VIEWING FOR A SIX YEAR OLD. It fucked me up for weeks.
